The Recovery is additional software that runs independently of the emteria operating system. Its main purpose is providing a safe environment in case the operating system is corrupted or broken. Additionally, it can be used to install extensions and platform updates, create and restore backups or just modify the contents of the internal memory. This tutorial shows how to install zip extensions and create data backups.
You can start the Recovery from the Power Off application in the Launcher. Click on this app as if to shutdown your OS but instead click on Recovery.
After a reboot you will probably see the recovery screen on the right side.
Attention: During the first start, the Recovery will warn you that going further might be dangerous. Please proceed only if you know what you are doing.
Recovery provides a simple way for clearing your device’s memory. On the other hand, it can also wipe the SD card. You might want to do this if you would like to remove your private information before passing the device to another user.
Attention: During a data wipe, all user data will be erased from your device, including platform settings, installed applications, media files and created documents.
If you want to know what it is like to destroy things, navigate to Wipe and select Advanced Wipe.
Select partitions which should be erased and then Swipe to Wipe. Please note, that you won’t be able to boot your device again if you selected vital partitions like boot or system.
Following steps illustrate how additional packages, extensions and platform updates can be installed. If you already have a compatible update or a zip extension, please make sure to save it on the SD card. For now, you can contact us to obtain a zip extension specifically to your needs.
On the main screen of the Recovery, navigate to Install and choose the corresponding zip file.
Now, Swipe to confirm Flash to install the selected file.
There are multiple ways of creating and restoring device data:
This option will save the created backup file onto the internal storage of your device.
From the main menu, navigate to Backup and choose the partitions you want to include.
If you want to provide a custom name, click on (Auto Generate) and type it in. Then Swipe to Backup.
If you have a backup file on your SD card, you can use this option to restore it.
From the main menu, navigate to Restore and choose the backup you want to restore.
Choose the desired options and Swipe to Restore.
If you would like to create a perfect copy of your SD card and restore it later on, or just in order to pass it to other users without having to provide your emteria username and password, please use existing software like Win32DiskImager:
